Marisa de Lange has been drawing and painting since she can remember. After school she studied BA(Communication) at Potchefstroom University and majored in Graphic Design in her final year.
Art with a message was born and Marisa and her husband, Riaan, founded the business First Light that focuses on creating a platform for local artists and encouraging them to make a difference in society and their communities through the medium of visual art. Through the printing and distribution of artists’ prints and greeting cards a platform is also created for artists.
During 2011 Marisa was the National Coordinator for the Arts during Firetrails. She networks widely with visual artists across the country of South Africa and Africa. She loves organizing workshops and opportunities for artists to become involved in projects and initiatives that help change lives. “Art is such a powerful medium and I love to see artists making a difference in their communities... art should not only be only for the sake of art. Art can communicate a message, touch the hearts and lives of people and make a difference.”
Her passion for people and justice, has led her to curate the FREEDOM EXHIBITION. A group exhibition of 40 artists, all adding their voices to raise awareness and help stop Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery.
